| Bodies
In Motion, a groundbreaking new work that combines live music, dance,
and video to redefine traditional concert formats, will have its
world premier at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for
the Performing Arts on Friday, February 4, 2005, at 8 pm.
Presented by UC Davis Arts, the work is an innovative, multi-disciplinary
collaboration created by three UC Davis faculty artists—pianist
Lara Downes, dancer/choreographer David
Grenke, and video artist Glenda Drew—that
shatters boundaries to arrive at something truly new and rewarding.
Bodies
In Motion features a live performance by Downes, weaving the music
into a visually stunning canvas combining choreography by Grenke
and cutting-edge video by Drew and exploring the territory where
body, sound, and technology meet. Featuring the music of contemporary
composers Kevin Puts, Adam Silverman,
and UC Davis Faculty member Laurie San Martin,
this unique collaboration combines the talents of artists working
across the borders of their disciplines with virtuosity, energy,
and a captivating theatricality. Bodies In Motion examines the central
issues of performance from the traditional stage to contemporary
rave culture, challenging preconceptions of “live” and
“pre-packaged” media and creating a thought-provoking
meeting place for a wide and diverse audience.
Bodies In Motion will premiere February 4, 2005, at 8 pm, in Mondavi
Center’s Studio Theatre on the UC Davis campus. Tickets are
available from the Mondavi Center Ticket Office at 530.754.ARTS
